NVSU plays bridesmaids anew to PLB in 8th NFO

For the seventh time, the Nueva Vizcaya State University- College of Forestry (NVSU-CF) placed overall first runner-up to University of the Philippines, Los Baños – College of Forestry and Natural Resources in the 8th National Forestry Olympiad (NFO) held at the UPLB-CFNR, College, Laguna on February 5-9, 2008.

 

This year’s team composed of four undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Forestry students, namely, Jane T. Afidchao, Tina Rose A. Viernes, Romnick L. Pascua and Manuel G. Bolusan, Jr. (alternate) competed in seven (7) events - Forest Surveying, Tree Measurement, Leaf Identification, Wood Identification, Tree Diseases Identification, Seed Identification and Quiz Contest. The team romped off with a trophy and a P10, 000.00 cash prize. UPLB-CFNR retained the champion trophy earning the team P 15, 000.00 while the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University received the 3rd placed trophy and a cash award of P7, 500.00.

 

Other participating schools in this year’s NFO are Apayao State College (ASC), Benguet State University (BSU), Ifugao State College of Agriculture and Forestry (ISCAF), Isabela State University (ISU), Kalinga Apayao State College (KASC), Mindanao State University (MSU), Naval Institute of Technology - Biliran National Agricultural College (NIT-BNAC), Southern Luzon State University (SLSU), University of Mindanao (UM), Western Mindanao State University (WMSU), Western Philippines University (WPU) and Western State University (WVSU).

 

This year’s NVSU-CF team was handled by rookie coach and NFO alumna, Ms. Errol L. Egoy.

 

The NFO is a biennial event participated in by various State College and Universities (SUCs) offering a BS Forestry course nationwide. Its main objective is to provide a venue for showcasing knowledge and skills of the best and brightest students from the different forestry schools in the country and, at the same time, build camaraderie among themselves who will later join the forestry profession.

 

Tabulated are the total score and individual scores that the NVSU-CF team garnered in each event with corresponding rankings.
