R02’s first citrus bud wood increase screened house erected by NVSU
To further hold up the Citrus Resources Research and Development Center (CRRDC), the Nueva Vizcaya State University (NVSU) finishes the construction of the first screened house for citrus bud wood increase and foundation blocks in the region in November 2008.
“The facilities in the structure will ensure the increase in production of disease-free planting materials,” explains Dr. Elbert Sana, citrus technology proponent. Because of the screens, he adds, the citrus plants are protected from insects which are the primary vectors of plant infection.

The said facility consists of the foundation blocks comprised of a few mother trees to act as bud eyes, and bud wood increase blocks that will multiply what is in the former.
“The increase blocks,” Dr. Sana clarifies “will definitely facilitate the production, as the trouble of going to and from mother trees in foundation blocks will be lessened. Five trees in the foundation block will be good enough to result in 20 in the bud wood increase blocks.”
Supportive of the citrus industry of the province, the structure and facilities are also anticipated to help generate income for the maintenance and development of NVSU’s CRRDC, as the plants to be produced will be sold at affordable prizes, from P100-P150.
