NVSU marks 5th Charter Year

“The Nueva Vizcaya State University is the youngest state university in Region 02 yet it has gone far beyond expectations in terms of academic, R&D and extension activities.”

Top: Ms. Portia L. Ilagan, Chief of Staff of the Office of Senator Ramon Bong Revilla Jr. was delighted to share the words of Sen. Revilla to the whole Nueva Vizcaya State University  family during the launching of the University Radio 96.5 UFM as opening thump to the university’s  5th Charter Anniversary on March 12, 2009.
Lower: On the second day of the celebration, NVSU gave a wooden sculpture of an eagle to Dr. Urdujah A. Tejada, DOST Region 02 Director as a token of gratitude for her gracious time as keynote speaker.

Thus said, Dr. Urdujah A. Tejada, DOST Region 02 Director during her keynote speech on the 5th Charter Anniversary of NVSU held last March 13 at Bambang Campus. In her speech she acknowledged the quality of researches that NVSU has been contributing to the region and the country as well. She then promised NVSU’s stronger alliance with the DOST.

The celebration of the 5th Charter Anniversary served as a venue wherein the university’s partner agencies were given due recognition which further strengthened academic and research collaborations. Also, the university awarded plaques of recognition to its work force that has labored for ten to thirty-five years of committed service.

To make the celebration more colorful and meaningful, a taste of Thai tradition was held with the floating of paper boats where every member of the NVSU community whispered their wishes and prayers as they casted away their boats. Also, the sky turned colorful with the soaring of NVSU air balloons symbolizing greater pride of excellence and deeper sense of gratitude as the university journeys to greater heights.

On the other hand, adding highlight to the said celebration was the launching of the 96.5 University FM Radio on March 12. The launching fueled the first day of the 5th Charter celebration with Ms. Portia Ilagan, the Chief of Staff of Senator Ramon Bong Revilla Jr. who served as guest speaker. The radio was established through the financial grant from the office of Senator Revilla.

Reverend Father Ted Lazo of the Diocese of Bayombong led the blessing of the Radio station and a short program followed afterwards. Ms. Ilagan showed a video clip of Senator Revilla who, in turn, is very much overwhelmed with the launching of the university radio. Sen. Revilla was grateful of helping his Alma Mater, NVSU which conferred him a Doctor of Humanities Honoris Causa back in year 2006.

A blasting motorcade followed right after the short program held at the lobby in front of the Radio Booth. The full force of the university radio staff, student air checkers and Genesis Clan (group of organized NVSU radio listeners) joined the motorcade from NVSU Bayombong to Diadi then Aritao and final stop at NVSU Bambang Campus.

The charter celebration culminated with the groundbreaking ceremony of the University Chapel on March 14, 8am at Bayombong Campus. Father Romulo Felix led the NVSU family in blessing the lot where the chapel will soon be erected. According to Father Felix, Bishop Ramon Villena expressed his joy for the noble idea of putting up a chapel in the university.

Moreover, Dr. Marilou G. Abon, NVSU President expressed her deepest thanks to Mrs. Juanita Reyes with her kindness of donating the lot for the said chapel. The chapel will be built out of voluntary donations from various constituents who are willing to spare physical or  financial support and  materials  that may shape the chapel. As to Dr. Abon’s words, the chapel will be called “Labor of Love”.

Dr. Abon also took pride in sharing her family’s love for NVSU. Her son who is a graduate of Architecture designed the plan of the chapel and is very willing to assist the NVSU’s pool of engineers and laborers who will toil for the said project.  The chapel will serve as a place of quiet time and reflection not only for NVSU family but to the whole community.

The three-day celebration of NVSU’s charter anniversary is a marathon of the university’s achievement in five years and served as occasion of NVSU’s means of gratitude with all the blessings that further reinforced various university thrusts; academic, research, extension, entrepreneurship and linkages. #
