NVSU kicked off its TBI through the PANAGSASABAT 2019


Nueva Vizcaya State University holds “PANAGSASABAT 2019: Stakeholders Forum and Exhibition on Innovation and Technopreneurship” to formally kick-off the NVSU’s Technology Business Incubator – Sabatan Technopreneurs Hub, at NVSU Mini Theater, Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya on December 13, 2019.

The NVSU Sabatan was established in September 1, 2019, headquartered at the NVSU Bayombong Campus and was funded by the DOST Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (PCIEERD), under the Higher Education Institution Readiness for Innovation and Technopreneurship (HeIRIT) Program.

Pangsasabat 2019 is a whole day event which included a Press Conference, Technology Exhibit, Awareness Symposium and Ideation Workshop, in order to inform the public, and to invite possible incubatees, mentors, investors and partners of the NVSU Sabatan Technopreneurs Hub.

Sabatan Holds Press Conference for Awareness


The Panagsasabat was launched with a press conference with media partners –DWRV Radyo Veritas, Philippine Information Agency Nueva Vizcaya Provincial Information Center, Nueva Vizcaya Press Club, DWNS 96.5 UFM, IPPRC and livebroadcast through the NVSU's Management Information System, to spread awareness among the public. The press conference aimed to shed some light in the SabatanTechnopreneurs Hub among the audience.

According to Dr. Cristina R. Salvosa, Project Leader & OIC Campus Administrator, the project was called ‘Sabatan’, an Ilocano term which means a ‘meeting place’, for the project aims to gather incubatees, mentors and advisers in one place to share their knowledge and to transform such ideas into a viable business.

Ms. Russel M. Pili, the Chief of the Research Information and Technology Transfer Division (RITTD) of DOST PCIEERD,, congratulated the university and informed the audience that there are 1, 900 universities and colleges in the Philippines; however, only 45 universities serves as a Technology Business Incubator (TBI) which is equivalent to only 2%.

“Being part of that 2% is already an accomplishment for NVSU. We implemented the program Higher Education and Institutional Readiness for Innovation and Technopreneurship as a way of preparing universities both private and state universities to offer programs to entrepreneurs and to students to be able to help them in their business ideas” she said.

Invented Technologies Exhibited


The NVSU Sabatan is geared to support early-stage startups that focus on providing innovative solutions on Metal craft industry and technologies in support of MSMEs, and agriculture sector.

With this, to present the initial incubatees of the Sabatan, fifteen technologies (Metal craft industry) were showcased during the technology exhibit, as part of the NVSU Panagsasabat 2019.

The exhibit was opened through a ribbon cutting ceremony spearheaded by Dr. Rowena Cristina L. Guevara, DOST Undersecretary of Science & Technology for Research and Development together with Mr. Cloyd Velasco of PCCI, Ms. Russel Pili of RITTD DOST PCIEERD, Engr. Jonathan Nuestro of DOST PSTC, NVSU Officials and the project team.

Aside from metal technologies, the citrus projects and products were also showcased during the exhibit. One of the highlights is the CitRIS “Citrus Genetic Resources Information System”, an online citrus database system developed by the NVSU under the Citrus Resources Research for Development in Cagayan Valley (CRR4DCV) Program, funded by DOST PCAARRD.

Awareness Symposium and Technology Pitch

NVSU Sabatan welcomes its potential partners from the different agencies like DOST, PLGU NV, Philippine Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Food entrepreneurs from Dupax del Norte (Fred's Wine), Rural Bank of Solano, Malabing Valley Multi-Purpose Cooperative, Fablab Santiago City, SUC's & HEI's like SMU, PLTC, IFSU, media partners, and the faculty & staff of NVSU during the Awareness symposium.

The awareness symposium aimed to inform the public about the Technology Business Incubation (TBI operation) in which it could help startup technology-based businesses by providing a range of resources, services and facilities needed during the development stage. The goal of TBI is to produce firms that will leave the incubation program financially viable and able to sustain operation and compete in the market.

This was further discussed and elaborated during the keynote speech of Dr. Rowena Cristina L. Guevara, the Undersecretary of Science & Technology for Research and Development of DOST who discussed innovation and technopreneurship.

Partner agencies like PCCI and DOST Region 02 and Nueva Vizcaya also committed to support the NVSU Sabatan through the delivered words of commitment of Mr. Cloyd Velasco and Engr. Jonathan Nuestro, respectively.

The event was concluded with an Ideation Workshop in the afternoon, which aimed to capacitate the potential parnters of Sabatan in technopreneurship. This activity was facilitated by Ms. Katrine Tucay, a faculty of the College of Business Education, NVSU and was attended by faculty, staff and other potential partners.
