Following its first project on Value Chain Analysis of Citrus in Cagayan Valley, the NVSU Research, Extension, and Business for Development (REBD) through the Citrus Resources Research for Development in Cagayan Valley (CRR4DCV) Program Team kicked-off its second project on Citrus Plant Genetic Resources and Database Profiling system on April 19-21, 2017.
The three-day activity embarked on four topics and field collecting activity on Citrus Genebank and Database profiling where three experts from the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), Laguna served as resource speakers.
Prof. Nestor Altoveros discussed on citrus species and cultivars identification, and database management. On the other hand, Prof. Teresita Borromeo, dealt on the strategies to citrus germplasm conservation field genebank, and the two-part Morphological and Molecular characterization of Citrus germplasm lecture. Prof. Renerio Gentallan, Jr., facilitated the field collecting activity.
The said project was headed by Dr. Ma. Cecilia Salas, former Vice President for REBD, with Dr. Elbert Sana as the CRR4DCV Program leader. More so, Projects 3 and 4 of the CRR4DV is yet to be arranged.
The CRR4DCV is a new program under REBD which is being funded and coordinated by the Department of Science and Technology Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD). #
