NVSU gets 20M grant from CHED for sports and wellness program

The Commission of Higher Education (CHED) has granted Nueva Vizcaya State University PHP 20,000,000.00 for the proposal titled, "NVSU Community Sports and Wellness Program: SALUN-AT: Nurturing Unity and Wellness Through Sports Access for Novo Vizcayanos" on August 22, 2023. NVSU is one of two SUCs in the Philippines selected for this grant and ranked first among all applicants.

As a response to CHED's call for project proposals for the CHED Community Sports and Wellness Grant, President Wilfredo A. Dumale, Jr. spearheaded and presented this. He has created an ad hoc committee chaired and co-chaired by the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs and the Office of the Vice President for Research, Extension, and Training, respectively.

The proposal is a community-centered sports and wellness program developed for the people of Nueva Vizcaya through the collaborative efforts of NVSU, the Provincial Local Government of Nueva Vizcaya, Provincial Federation of Sangguniang Kabataan, Municipal Local Government Units and Barangays throughout the province, and in cooperation with the Non-Government Organizations. This is aligned with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals, the National Economic and Development Authority's Ambisyon Natin 2040, and the Commission on Higher Education Tertiary Sports Development Program.

The main objectives of the program to be implemented by the NVSU's Sports and Development Center are to promote physical and mental wellness among the entire community of Nueva Vizcaya, to forge a strong and collaborative partnership with various stakeholders, including the Provincial Government, Department of Education, municipal governments, barangays, NGOs, senior citizens groups, retirees associations, indigenous people groups, and out-of-school youths. By encouraging active participation, educating and raising awareness, providing resources and support, empowering marginalized groups, and measuring impact, the program seeks to foster a healthy lifestyle, inclusivity, and sustainable wellness practices for the people of Nueva Vizcaya. The main objective of the collaboration between the university and the provincial and local government unit in promoting sports excellence is to create an environment that enables athletes to thrive and reach their full potential.
